Bouquet of Whites

Mendocino is one of my all-time favorite places to visit, to stay, to paint. The gardens are overflowing with color and texture. But it's the buildings, the houses and cottages that are an unforgettable bouquet of color. Especially the whites. They subtly reflect surrounding hues and frame surprising sparks of color, such as the window in this care-taker's home. It looks like softly stained glass but is actually a combination of reflected outside color and inside curtains peeking through the window panes. The stairs welcome you to the White Gate Inn.
