Why is it that the old and worn is so intriguing? The lasting holds a beauty that can't be imitated. Why is it that we try so hard to change this truth when it comes to people? I'm going to consider this next time I'm tempted to think I'm looking "old".

Sometimes it's fun to know the "story" behind a painting that you especially like because it's often parallel to events, experiences, feelings or backgrounds that are YOUR story. Once in a while I will do a painting just for the sake of a subject that I'm drawn to. Or a color scheme grabs me and I'll look for a subject that will show it off. Many times I don't know the story until the painting is finished. I'll set it up somewhere in my house and live with it for a day or two and all of a sudden, I'll know the story behind that combination of subject, colors, shapes, and spaces which has become a painting. My paintings often tell me about me: they illustrate what has become valuable to me, where I'm going in my life, emotionally and literally.

You may find that I've illustrated something meaningful in your life. You may not even know why you've been drawn to a particular painting, but for some reason it seems to be calling you. Chances are you've found yourself on a bit of the path I've been on as well. Perhaps we're heading the same way.
