Good Company

I'm trying my hand at something new and challenging...after all, someone with a young adult, a teen-ager, and a preteen needs something challenging! (HA!). I am working on writing a children's book, a learn-as-you-go project. I'm surprised how therapeutic this is, like painting with words. The story is taken from the years we lived next to an Heirloom-rose nursery. It shares peeks at a childhood touched by unusual neighbors: the roses of the nearby nursery and a caring couple who grew them. The point of the book is that children become what they experience. I feel passionately that we can all influence a child's ultimate view of life by what we are willing to give in time, attention, and kindness. "Good Company" shows Ruth, a retired kindergarten teacher who lived behind us. She invited our children to regularly join her for refreshments (fig-newtons and mint water) and small talk. We will never forget her.
