Suddenly Spring

Several weeks ago, my friend Melinda Holland came over to photograph my studio. She is a professional photographer and can see beauty in the mundane, in clutter, in daily living (check out her website, melindaholland.com). While she was working, I moved out to a little table under the apple trees in my back yard and started priming a new board to paint. As I worked, the lighting changed and a row of fully-bloomed snapdragons began to glow. There's nothing better than a freshly prepped, crisply white canvas and an unexpected painting subject suddenly in the same moment and the same space.
